Data Analyst

SHK Asia Pacific

  • Data infrastructure for a circular economy
  • National product stewardship scheme
  • Turning waste tyres into a valued resource

About the organisation

Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) is the body responsible for implementing Australia's national ACCC-authorised Tyre Product Stewardship Scheme - a coordinated effort to transform end-of-life tyres from a waste problem into a recoverable resource. TSA operates across the tyre and resource recovery value chain, working with industry participants to drive sustainable outcomes at a national scale. This is a small, focused organisation with a clear mandate: maximise the value of Australia's end-of-life tyres and build the market infrastructure to support a genuine circular economy. TSA's work is underpinned by five strategic pillars, and data sits at the heart of how this organisation makes decisions, demonstrates impact, and influences the sector.

About the role

The Data Analyst sits at the operational and strategic centre of TSA's work, supporting activities across the organisation and anchoring the decision-making pillar. The role operates across three distinct modes: managing the ongoing flow of participant data that underpins TSA's reporting obligations; contributing analytical rigour to research projects – including material flow analyses presented to government ministers – and responding with precision and speed to executive requests that require immediate, accurate data synthesis. The role also maintains and continuously improves TSA's core datasets and models, manages external data subscriptions, and advances TSA's standing as a knowledge hub for the tyre and resource recovery sector. Reporting to Head of Science & Research and embedded in the Melbourne team, this is a role for someone who thrives on variety, ambiguity and finds satisfaction in the for-purpose nature of the work being undertaken.

About you

You hold a degree in a quantitative discipline – computer science, data analytics, engineering, mathematics, physics, or a related field – and bring experience working with large, complex datasets in a fast-paced environment. Your Excel skills are genuinely advanced: you work at speed, with precision, and treat it as a primary analytical instrument. You are comfortable with Power BI, data transformation tools such as Power Query, and have some exposure to SQL, Python, or similar. What distinguishes you is not just technical capability but your disposition where you are a self-starter who completes every task on the list, moves fluidly between competing priorities without losing momentum, and communicates data-driven findings clearly to non-technical audiences. You are calm under pressure, intellectually curious, and quietly effective. Experience in a consulting firm, technology startup, or purpose-driven research environment will resonate, as will a genuine interest in sustainability and the circular economy. You will also enjoy working with a range of stakeholders both within the private and public sectors.
