The Team

The Media and Digital Engagement team is a dynamic and fast-paced small team, responsible for providing external communications services covering digital and social media channel management, and other media and public relations duties.

The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for a creative and skilled practitioner to be involved in the strategic development and management of AEC digital and social media activities (TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, X, Threads, LinkedIn and the AEC website).

The successful candidate will utilise their communications expertise and knowledge to inform key stakeholders and the Australian community about their electoral rights and responsibilities via AEC digital channels.

They will design high quality content across a range of platforms, perform social listening and reporting and undertake community management on the AEC’s social media channels. They will also support other media and public relations activities as required.

This role is responsible for undertaking moderately complex and/or sensitive work under limited direction.

To excel you’ll have:

  • Knowledge and experience in implementation of a range of communication activities.
  • Confidence and ability to effectively communicate, collaborate and manage relationships with team members, business areas and external stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of social media, and what content performs well on each channel, with the ability to spot trends and adapt them for the AEC to inform content strategies
  • Ability to script, film, star and edit content, including but not limited to, trend led short form videos, educational longer form videos, and the creation on engaging graphics.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and collaborate within a team.
  • Demonstrated personal drive and integrity whilst achieving results within legislative and budget parameters.
  • Basic editing skills (Capcut, Canva or similar), with a great eye for visuals, tone of voice and simplifying complex information.
  • Ability to remain positive and respond to pressure in a calm manner, while committing energy and drive to achieving goals.
  • Ability to step up to the additional demands to develop and deliver the AEC’s social media activities at a federal election or referendum.

  • Any person who is, and seen to be active in political affairs, and intends to publicly carry on this activity, may compromise the strict neutrality of the AEC and cannot be considered.
