Client Services Manager — CA

Chartered Accountant | Medical & Specialist Clients | Penrith, NSW Lead an established team. Build the next layer of a growing firm

We're a chartered accounting firm with offices in Penrith, Faulconbridge and Leura, serving business owners and medical specialists across Western Sydney, the Blue Mountains and Sydney's North Shore. Founded by Yan Qi after a decade in city public practice, the firm has grown from start-up to $500k in annual revenue, and we're now scaling into a specialist advisory firm for doctors and high-income professionals.

We're not a city firm pretending to be boutique. We're a real boutique — small, ambitious, and being built deliberately.

The opportunity

This is a leadership seat, not a senior accountant role.

We've already built the production engine: What the firm needs now is the client services and review layer — a CA who owns client relationships, does final review and sign-off, leads the team, and works alongside the principal on growth.

Over the next 18–24 months, the right person grows into the firm's Practice Manager — managing the team end-to-end, driving service standards, and sharing in the firm's growth.

If you're a senior associate or assistant manager at a mid-tier firm who's tired of waiting your turn behind ten partners, this is the seat you've been looking for.

What you'll own

  • Client relationships. Be the primary point of contact for a portfolio of business and medical specialist clients. Run review meetings, advisory conversations, structuring discussions, ATO matters.
  • Final review and sign-off. Review work prepared by the offshore team across business returns, individuals, BAS, financial statements, and SMSF annual compliance and reporting.
  • Team leadership. Manage the offshore team day-to-day — workflow, capacity planning, technical guidance, standards, training. The senior offshore accountant reports into you.
  • Complex and advisory work. Service entity structures, PSI rules, SMSFs, family trusts, asset protection — the high-margin work that mid-tier juniors don't get exposure to.
  • Firm-building. Work directly with the principal on systems, workflows, fee structures, and the growth roadmap. Your fingerprints on how the firm is built.

What you'll bring

Essential

  • CA qualified (or final-stage CA with strong public practice background)
  • Registered Tax Agent, or eligible and willing to register within 12 months
  • 5+ years in Australian public practice
  • SMSF review experience — confident reviewing SMSF financials, annual returns, member statements, contribution caps, pension compliance, and audit-ready workpapers
  • Confident across business tax, individual tax, GST, FBT, Div 7A, trusts and company structures
  • Strong client-facing skills — comfortable holding a room with a specialist or a small business owner
  • Comfortable making decisions and owning outcomes without daily oversight

Strongly preferred

  • Experience managing or reviewing work from offshore teams (Philippines, India, or similar)
  • Experience with medical specialists, GPs, surgeons or other high-income professionals
  • Familiarity with service entity structures, PSI rules, family trusts and asset protection in a wealth-protection context
  • Working knowledge of BGL Simple Fund 360 or Class Super
  • Prior experience as a team lead, supervisor, or assistant manager

Bonus

  • Existing professional network in the medical or allied health space
  • Xero certified; comfortable with cloud workflows (Xero, BGL, FYI, Karbon or similar)

Why this role

  • A real leadership seat from day one. You're not joining to be groomed for five years. You're stepping in as the most senior person onshore after the principal.
  • A clear path to Practice Manager. This isn't a vague "growth opportunity." It's the actual succession plan. Within 18–24 months, the goal is for you to be running day-to-day operations.
  • A team that already exists. You won't be hiring your team from scratch. You walk in to 2.5 FTE including a senior, established workflows, and live clients.
  • Specialisation in medical. Build deep expertise in one of the highest-margin niches in Australian public practice. Medical specialist accounting commands premium fees and premium loyalty.
  • Real SMSF exposure. SMSFs are core to how we serve our specialist clients — not a side service. You'll be reviewing, advising on, and growing this part of the practice.
  • Lifestyle. Penrith-based, no CBD commute. Hybrid arrangement available once established. We work hard but we're not a sweatshop.
  • A firm being built properly. The principal brings 10+ years of city firm experience and takes systems, quality and team development seriously.

The package

  • $90,000–$100,000 base + superannuation, depending on experience
  • Flexible start/finish times; hybrid arrangement available once established
  • manager's role is established
  • Based at our Penrith office, with occasional travel to Faulconbridge and Leura
