JLE Group is seeking an experienced Technical Service Manager to join our Manufacturing & Hire division. Based in Newcastle, this role offers strategic leadership across HV/LV technical service operations, hire assets, and field maintenance activities.

About the role

The Technical Services Manager is responsible for leading and managing the delivery of technical service operations across HV/LV electrical systems, hire assets, and field-based maintenance activities, ensuring safe, compliant, efficient, and commercially viable service delivery while driving technician performance and supporting business growth.

Key responsibilities include

  • Oversee technical service activities (maintenance, breakdowns, commissioning, installations).
  • Plan/schedule technicians, subcontractors, and resources to meet SLAs/deadlines.
  • Maintain workflow control from job initiation to close-out.
  • Provide technical guidance, fault finding, and diagnostics across HV/LV systems and hire equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with Australian Standards, electrical regulations, and company procedures.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop technicians/apprentices through performance reviews, training, and competency plans.
  • Manage workforce planning, utilization, productivity, and technician development.
  • Act as key client contact, provide technical solutions, and identify revenue opportunities.
  • Manage job costing, profitability, quoting, tendering, pricing, and financial performance.
  • Drive WHS compliance, safety initiatives, toolbox talks, and risk assessments.
  • Maintain service records, asset registers, compliance documentation, and support ISO audits.
  • Oversee service systems, workflows, reporting tools, and preventative maintenance programs (PPM).

What you'll bring

Essential

  • Electrical trade qualification (HV/LV preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience in service delivery or maintenance operations.
  • Commercial acumen (job costing, margins, budgeting).
  • Knowledge of WHS and compliance requirements including Australian standards.

Desirable

  • Well-developed management skills such as planning, organising, and evaluation.
  • Understanding and interpreting relevant Standards and Codes of Practice.
  • 7–12 years' experience in the trade.
  • Contract training (GC21/AS4000).
  • OH&S training.
