About the Role

As a Residential Youth Worker, you will provide care and support to children and young people living in out-of-home care or at risk within their family environment. Your role is to help create a safe, stable and supportive setting that promotes each young person's emotional, social and developmental wellbeing.

You will be the primary caregiver during your shift, supporting young people to build life skills, follow daily routines, and engage in age-appropriate activities. You will work closely with the Coordinator and Service Manager to implement trauma-informed support strategies for young people with complex needs.

What a day in the life of a Residential Youth Worker looks like:

  • Planning and engaging in meaningful activities with the young person.
  • Being a vital part of a cohesive team, dedicated to helping young people achieve their personal goals.
  • Promoting good hygiene and nutrition.
  • Maintaining daily case notes, handling administrative tasks, and preparing incident reports.

Permanent Part-Time Rates starting at $ 38.65 per hour (excluding allowances).

Current positions available

Line B - Gympie - 63 hours a fortnight

Week 1: Mon (2pm to 10.30pm S/O 6.30am to 10am

Week 2: Mon, Wed & Fri (2pm to 10.30pm S/O 6.30am to 10am), Sun (8am to 10.30pm S/O 6.30am to 8.30am)

Qualifications, Credentials and Other Requirements

  • A Certificate IV or higher qualification in Child, Youth & Family Intervention, Youth Services, Community Services, or a related field
  • Current Blue Card
  • Current Licensed Care Service (LCS)
  • Completion of Hope and Healing Framework training
  • Current Queensland Drivers Licence

About You

  • Experience engaging with children and young people from diverse backgrounds
  • Skilled in building positive, respectful relationships
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Understands trauma-informed care and the impact of trauma on development and behaviour
  • Knowledge of child protection principles and relevant legislation, including the Child Protection Act 1999
  • Calm and flexible in crisis situations, with a focus on safety and compliance
