About the Role

The purpose of this role is to contribute to the development of, and to drive, CCIWA’s policy agenda, to actively work to influence Government policy and to educate the public on CCIWA policy work in accordance with the organisation’s strategic plan. It contributes directly to the organisation’s strategic priority to ‘Foster WA as a great place to do business’ according to our mission to champion business and promote free enterprise.

The role requires extensive experience in policy development and stakeholder management and is responsible for building effective relationships across government, CCIWA members and other key internal and external stakeholders. Success in the role involves successful interaction with the business community on policy issues, and delivery of strong written submissions to lobby the government for positive change supporting free enterprise and the WA business community.

You will report directly to the Chief Economist.

This is a full-time, permanent position that will be based in the Perth CBD office.

Key responsibilities include

  • Management and professional development of direct reports
  • Driving business unit planning and improving internal processes and systems
  • Oversight of all policy work including development of policy priorities, and development and review of all external CCIWA policy communications (including submissions)
  • Oversight and coordination of all interactions with the business community on policy issues, including in policy development processes and providing members information about policy issues
  • Evaluating and improving CCIWA’s approach to member engagement on policy and advocacy
  • Oversight of the policy team’s close collaboration with the Membership team to ensure CCIWA members gain value from their member packages through involvement in policy
  • Ensure policy team members attend meetings with members and potential members
  • Ensuring the policy team’s close collaboration with other business units, in order to support the organisation meets its strategic priorities
  • Coordinate policy and advocacy updates to be delivered to the CCIWA Board

About You

You will have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Business, Commerce, Economics, Politics, Law or equivalent
  • Ability to evaluate public policies for their impacts on business and the broader economy, and to recommend the position that CCIWA should take.
  • Proven experience in developing and delivering policy agenda items and comprehensive, on-point submissions
  • Ability to manage projects
  • Excellent communication skills with both internal and external parties
  • Outstanding written skills
  • The ability to think strategically and build strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders that support positive policy outcomes
  • Experience collaborating with subject matter experts to develop policy submissions
  • High-level of attention to detail, organisation and prioritisation
  • Police Clearance
