Position: Project Controls Engineer

Location: Brisbane CBD – With occasional travel to site when required.

Sector: Oil & Gas

Salary: $170k-$190k + Site Uplift + Super + Package

Core Talent are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Project Controls Engineer to join a high-performing project delivery team within the Oil & Gas sector.

This role will be responsible for supporting project performance through scheduling, reporting, progress monitoring, cost and performance analysis, and stakeholder coordination across complex projects.

The successful candidate will have strong experience in project controls systems, scheduling software, reporting tools, and construction project environments, with the ability to work collaboratively across multiple disciplines and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, monitor, and update project schedules using Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project
  • Track and report project KPIs and performance metrics
  • Analyse project performance from both cost and schedule perspectives including CPI, SPI, and productivity factors
  • Develop and maintain Power BI reporting dashboards and reporting suites
  • Interpret and generate Synchro reports and progress data
  • Identify schedule variances and provide recommendations to maintain project targets
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports
  • Liaise with clients, project teams, and external stakeholders
  • Review contractual documentation and project deliverables
  • Participate in construction, testing, completions, commercial, and planning meetings
  • Monitor and report delays, scope changes, and associated project impacts
  • Facilitate progress and coordination meetings
  • Develop innovative reporting solutions and improve reporting efficiencies
  • Build and maintain project databases, templates, and reporting documentation

  • Promote and maintain a strong safety-first culture across all project activities
  • Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and environmental management systems
  • Adhere to all legislative, contractual, and company compliance requirements
  • Participate in safety and assurance initiatives and actively contribute to continuous improvement
  • Stop and report any unsafe work practices or conditions

Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in an Engineering or related discipline
  • Current unrestricted Australian Driver’s Licence

Experience

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in project controls within a construction, infrastructure, or engineering environment
  • Strong experience with Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and MS Office Suite
  • Experience working across large-scale construction or engineering projects

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and reporting capability
  • Experience developing Power BI dashboards and reporting tools
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work effectively across multiple teams and stakeholders
