Casual Port Operations Supervisor (1218 month assignment) supporting drivers, crane operations, and logistics at Gladstone Port

MondayFriday roster (7:00am3:30/4:00pm)

Key role coordinating safety, compliance, pre-starts, maintenance, reporting, and stakeholder liaison across heavy transport and lifting operations

Our client is an established Australian engineering and construction company with extensive experience delivering infrastructure and industrial projects. They are recognised for their technical expertise, reliable project delivery, and strong focus on safety and quality.

About The Position

This position is responsible for overseeing daily port logistics and transport operations, including the coordination of drivers, crane activities, equipment servicing, and vessel discharge requirements. Working within a fast-paced port environment, the role requires strong leadership, safety focus, and the ability to manage operational compliance, stakeholder communication, and site coordination across multiple projects and facilities.

The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining efficient operations while ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety standards, Chain of Responsibility legislation, and port security requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily port operations including truck movements, crane activities, and vessel discharge coordination
  • Coordinate drivers, contractors, and site personnel to ensure safe and efficient operations
  • Conduct pre-start meetings, toolbox talks, and regular safety inspections
  • Ensure compliance with WHS, Chain of Responsibility, and port security requirements
  • Coordinate equipment servicing, repairs, fuel deliveries, and logistics support
  • Maintain accurate records, permits, inductions, and training documentation
  • Liaise with clients, suppliers, and port authorities on operational requirements
  • Support client meetings, reporting, rostering, and scheduling
  • Monitor lifting operations, load restraint, and yard safety standards
  • Investigate incidents and escalate operational or safety issues as required

Experience Required

  • Previous experience in transport, logistics, stevedoring, or port operations
  • Demonstrated supervisory or team leadership experience in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong understanding of workplace health and safety requirements and safe work practices
  • Knowledge of Chain of Responsibility legislation and compliance obligations
  • Experience coordinating multiple operational activities simultaneously
  • Familiarity with crane operations, lifting activities, or heavy vehicle logistics (desirable)
  • Experience working in or around port environments (highly regarded)
  • Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work with contractors, clients, and regulatory authorities
  • Current drivers licence and ability to obtain/maintain MSIC clearance
