About the role
This role is focused on driving PR, media relations, and brand communications initiatives for Chemist Warehouse and DDS, while supporting broader events and campaign activity. Key responsibilities include managing day-to-day media relations such as drafting press releases, coordinating interviews, handling media requests, proactive pitching, and building strong relationships with journalists and external stakeholders. The role also involves monitoring media coverage and industry trends, identifying opportunities, supporting crisis communications when needed, and producing monthly PR and communications reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day media relations including press releases, interview coordination, media requests, and proactive pitching
- Build strong relationships with journalists, media outlets, and external stakeholders
- Monitor media coverage, competitor activity, and industry trends to identify opportunities and manage risks
- Provide on-the-ground media support for press conferences, photo opportunities, and filmed activations
- Assist with crisis and issues management communications when required
- Prepare monthly PR and communications reports
- Support key events by hosting media and assisting with the annual brand showcase strategy
- Manage LinkedIn content scheduling and posting to align with brand messaging
- Coordinate consumer competitions and permit requirements
- Oversee creation of PR gifting, seasonal boxes, and bespoke branded packages
- Stay up to date with media best practices and ensure compliance with TGA requirements
Qualifications and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations or a related field preferred
- 5+ years’ experience in a similar PR/communications environment
- Strong knowledge of media relations and digital communications
- Highly organised with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a professional approach
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent analytical skills and confidence in decision-making
- Proven project management skills with experience leading cross-functional initiatives
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and strong general IT/computer skills
