Marketing & Communications Intern
Elephant Pigeon Communication
Seeking a food-loving aspiring marketer or publicist looking to build their skills and experience in an internship 1 day a week (flexible) for 3 months.
Elephant Pigeon Communication provides PR and communication services to farm-to-table businesses. Small-scale regenerative farmers, sustainable hospitality & venues, charities in the food systems space… basically anyone passionate about getting people better connected with where our food comes from, because we believe that’s where a lot of magic (and impact) happens.
You’ll be working closely with and guided by the founder (hi) on a range of clients and upcoming projects, from agritourism to a large food systems event (3 days, 5 smaller events with guests ranging from high school kids/farmers/chefs/government).
Through a combo of observation, lessons & taking on small tasks, you'll learn and build experience in tasks like:
- Content creation and social media management
- Market research and story development
- Marketing & PR strategy
- Email marketing
- Community outreach and engagement
- SEO basics
- Event planning
- Sitting in on client meetings (if you want)
There's also potential to lean into other areas that interest you - I'm a big believer in sharing skills with those coming through in the industry and making sure you get plenty of value out of the internship. Not in making you get coffee or do filing. Ideally, you'll also help me be less of a cringe millennial along the way.
Elephant Pigeon may be a small company (mostly one person, but with contractors and other brilliant people I work alongside who you can also learn from) but the beauty of that is you’ll be exposed to every part of the business with plenty of transparency and room to ask questions - no rigid hierarchies here.
Working set-up is flexible. It'd be great to catch up in person at least for the first few weeks (Salisbury or CBD locations) but happy for it to be remote otherwise. The role is unpaid, but with possibility of casual employment later if we're both happy.
TO APPLY
While a bit of experience and/or current study in marketing, PR or comms is highly regarded, it’s not essential. What I'd love to see is:
- A knack for writing
- Interest in social media, current affairs and pop culture
- That you’re down to learn new things
- A genuine desire to make a career of marketing and PR (even better if you’d love for that to be in food, social enterprise or sustainability spaces)
To apply, please send your resume and a brief cover letter to ***email_hidden*** . Keep that cover letter to less than a page - don’t recap what's in your resume, just explain why you’re interested in the internship, and what your favourite food is (and why). Looking forward to hearing from you!
