About the Role

The Design Coordinator is responsible for leading and managing the design process across major construction projects, ensuring outcomes are commercially effective, technically robust, and aligned with program, budget, and client expectations.

The role requires strong leadership capability, exceptional stakeholder management skills, and the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary consultants while driving high-quality design outcomes from concept through to delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Project Leadership

  • Lead and manage the design process across complex construction projects from inception through to completion.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary consultant teams to ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Drive design solutions that balance quality, functionality, program, compliance, and commercial outcomes.
  • Review project documentation to identify design gaps, buildability issues, and value engineering opportunities.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant Australian Standards, NCC/BCA requirements, and statutory legislation.
  • Collaborate closely with construction and delivery teams to ensure alignment between design intent and onsite execution.
  • Manage project design programmes and contribute to overall project planning and sequencing.

Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the key point of contact for all design-related matters across projects.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams.
  • Work collaboratively with senior leadership to support business objectives and project success.
  • Facilitate effective communication between project stakeholders to ensure timely decision-making and issue resolution.

Commercial & Operational Excellence

  • Contribute to budget management and cost control initiatives across projects.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement within design management processes and systems.
  • Identify opportunities for alternative methodologies, materials, and construction approaches that create value.
  • Support the implementation and refinement of standardised design delivery systems and procedures.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Mentor and support project teams, contributing to capability development across the business.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance development initiatives where required.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain high standards of quality assurance throughout the design and delivery process.
  • Ensure compliance with all Workplace Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • Support a safe and compliant project environment across all phases of delivery.
