As a Gen AI Specialist Engineer working in our development team, you'll build applications such as custom AI systems, agentic pipelines and the automations that wire them into client operations.

You'll work directly alongside Advancer's engineering and leadership group, take ownership of end-to-end builds and contribute to the development of our Agent Intelligence Platform, our internal engine room at the heart of how we deliver AI at scale.

A Day at Advancer: What You'll Be Doing

Custom AI Builds - 70%

• Design, build and deploy custom AI solutions: agents, multi-step LLM pipelines, document intelligence systems, RAG architectures and voice AI integrations
• Build and maintain agentic AI solutions including single and multi-agent systems using LLMs, tools, memory and orchestration patterns
• Implement prompt engineering, tool calling, MCP-style agent patterns and structured evaluation approaches across a diverse range of client areas
• Contribute to the build-out of Advancer's Agent Intelligence Platform, our core internal product shaping how we deploy AI across our client base
• Produce clear technical and non-technical documentation covering technical scoping, architecture, design decisions, trade-offs and client outcomes

Automation - 20%

• Design and ship multi-step automations to connect clients' existing platforms: CRMs, document stores, Slack, MS 365 and Google and more
• Work with structured and unstructured data: REST APIs, webhooks, JSON, SQL, documents, logs. Diagnose failures and build automations that are maintainable

Client Scoping - 10%

• Embed with client teams when needed to map how their work actually happens. Help to scope the pain points, identify the time to fix the friction and define what needs to be built
• Translate complex business problems into agent-enabled AI solutions, defining success criteria, evaluation approaches and measurable outcomes
• Produce scoping documentation that bridges what a client needs and what gets built and communicate clearly with stakeholders of varying technical literacy

Skills & Experience

ESSENTIAL

• 3+ years of hands-on experience across AI engineering, automation or software development with demonstrable production deployments in real world environments, not just side projects
• Practical, proven experience building LLM-enabled systems: prompt engineering, RAG, tool calling and agent integration patterns using the Claude API and/or OpenAI API
• Experience with agent frameworks and orchestration patterns: multi-agent systems, tool registries, memory stores, and MCP-style discovery/invocation
• Demonstrated ability to design and build agentic workflows, task decomposition, planning, memory management and multi-step orchestration
• Production-level automation experience: complex, multi-step workflows built and maintained in real client environments
• Strong working knowledge of REST APIs, webhooks, JSON, and SQL: you can read an API response, diagnose a problem integration and structure a data payload without hand-holding
• Excellent debugging and problem-solving skills. You're able to quickly trace complex behaviour across data, models, agents and external systems
• Strong communication, presentation and documentation skills. You're able to engage stakeholders from the C-suite to the frontline without losing technical precision
• Ability to independently decompose ambiguous problems and deliver outcomes using experimentation and sound engineering judgement during set and fixed timeframes
• You enjoy working, growing and learning with a team and having regular onsite catch ups in Fortitude Valley

DESIRABLE

• Data experience with structured and unstructured data inside data lakes and data warehouses. Working with data sets connecting to AI context / semantic environments
• Google Cloud Platform and BigQuery experience, or other data platforms such as Snowflake and Databricks
• Voice AI build experience using ElevenLabs Conversational AI
• Background in applied AI domains such as NLP, document intelligence or predictive modelling
• Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science or equivalent demonstrated experience

Tools

REQUIRED

• AI Platforms: Claude API, OpenAI API built systems with, not just used in the UI
• Automation: production experience, complex multi-step workflows
• Set up and maintain cloud hosting on either AWS, Azure or Google
• Data & Integration: REST APIs, Webhooks, JSON, SQL, MCP
• Client side: Microsoft 365 and Google Suite
• Claude Code or Codex experience
• GitHub repositories

ADVANTAGEOUS

• Voice AI: ElevenLabs Conversational AI 2.0
• Ops Stack: Slack, Google Workspace, MS 365

What Good Looks Like at 60 Days

• We move fast! You've shipped at least two custom AI builds running live in a client environment
• You've delivered at least two production automations that have removed real manual work
• You've made a meaningful contribution to the Advancer Agent Intelligence Platform
• You've produced at least one reusable asset for Advancer's internal library: a prompt framework, playbook or automation template
• A client stakeholder who was sceptical about AI is now a convert because of something you built and the way you helped present it
• You've enjoyed numerous coffee and lunch catch ups with our team
