Risk & Compliance Lead

Beacon Legal

Beacon Legal has partnered with a leading Australian renewable energy and electricity retailer in the search for a Risk & Compliance Lead to join the Melbourne or Sydney office. This opportunity would suit a risk and compliance professional with around 5+ years’ experience who is looking to step into a broad and commercially significant role supporting a fast-growing and highly innovative business.

We’re seeking a commercially minded and proactive risk and compliance professional to join a high-performing Legal, Risk & Compliance team. This role offers exposure across retail energy, renewable generation and development, metering services and consumer-facing digital platforms, working closely with a business operating at the forefront of Australia’s energy transition. Reporting directly to the General Counsel & Company Secretary, this is a rare opportunity to influence and shape enterprise-wide compliance and risk initiatives in a dynamic and evolving regulatory environment.

This is an excellent opportunity to take on impactful work, build strong internal relationships and develop your career within a supportive and forward-thinking environment.

About the Role

  • Support and enhance the business-wide compliance framework.
  • Provide practical compliance and risk advice across the organisation.
  • Manage regulatory engagement and compliance reporting obligations.
  • Oversee compliance incidents, investigations and remediation processes.
  • Deliver compliance training and promote risk awareness across the business.
  • Maintain and improve the corporate risk framework and risk register.
  • Prepare reporting and insights for senior leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Support broader governance, assurance and strategic initiatives.

What we’re looking for

  • 5+ years’ experience in compliance and/or risk roles within a highly regulated industry such as energy, financial services, telecommunications or infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, implementing and managing compliance frameworks and risk management processes.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management capability, with the ability to influence across all levels of a business.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • A proactive, adaptable and collaborative approach.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical business advice.
  • Tertiary qualification in Law, Commerce, Risk Management, Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Exposure to the energy sector, SOCI framework, renewable project development or metering obligations will be highly regarded.
