The Network, part of Sovereign Capability Group, is continuing to build a specialist Defence and Government recruitment practice in Canberra. This is an opportunity for an experienced recruiter to help shape a growing business at the intersection of Defence, national security, technology, and sovereign industrial capability.

The company is an experienced recruitment and workforce solutions business with a strong contractor base, government and commercial relationships, and a growing presence across Defence and Federal Government. Through Sovereign Capability Group, we are also connected to broader capability areas, including the defence industry, engineering, mission-critical technology, AI, nuclear supply chain services, and sovereign capability programs.

We are looking for a commercially minded Senior Recruitment Consultant who can develop client relationships, identify workforce needs, build trusted candidate networks and convert market opportunity into sustainable revenue.

The role

You will be responsible for developing and managing a portfolio of Defence, Federal Government and defence industry clients. This will include existing relationships, warm introductions through SCG, and new business development across primes, SMEs, consultancies and aligned technology businesses.

You will work across permanent and contract recruitment assignments, with a particular focus on Leadership positions, commercial roles, engineering, technical delivery, security-cleared talent, ICT, cyber, project services, and defence-adjacent roles.

Key responsibilities

  • Build and manage client relationships across Defence, Federal Government, primes, SMEs and consultancies
  • Develop a territory plan covering existing accounts, target clients and priority relationships
  • Generate new business through disciplined sales activity, referrals, account development and market mapping
  • Identify, attract and manage high-quality candidates, including security-cleared professionals
  • Work closely with The Network and SCG leadership to convert group relationships into recruitment outcomes
  • Manage the full recruitment lifecycle from client qualification through to offer, placement and onboarding
  • Maintain accurate CRM, pipeline, activity and account information
  • Contribute to the growth of a specialist Defence and Government recruitment practice in Canberra

About you

You may already be an experienced recruitment consultant in Defence, Federal Government, technology, engineering, cyber or project services. Alternatively, you may come from a strong recruitment background and want to move into a more strategic Defence-oriented market.

You will bring:

  • Proven recruitment, business development or account management experience
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to deal with senior stakeholders
  • A practical understanding of Defence, Federal Government, technology or professional services markets
  • Commercial discipline and the ability to manage activity, pipeline and revenue outcomes
  • A relationship-led approach to clients and candidates
  • High personal standards, resilience and a willingness to build something properly
  • Existing Canberra, Defence, or government networks would be highly regarded
