About the Role

The Legal Counsel will support a Senior Legal Counsel by delivering high-quality legal and commercial support across the business. The role focuses on the drafting, review, and administration of commercial agreements, while developing the capability to contribute to more complex transactions over time. This role involves supporting commercial negotiation and deal structuring, ensuring efficient contract execution, and supporting project delivery across their growing trans-Tasman operations, with a focus on supporting the growth of the Australian business. You will work closely with the New Zealand headquarters, external counsel as required, and commercial, project, and operational teams to ensure contracts are fit for purpose, risks are appropriately managed, and documentation is accurate and well-maintained. This role will also contribute to the continuous improvement of legal processes, templates, and systems, helping to build scalable legal capability within a fast-growing business.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in law and admitted (or eligible for admission) in Australia.
  • 2–5 years’ experience in commercial or corporate law (private practice or in-house).
  • Experience drafting and reviewing commercial contracts.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple documents and deadlines.
  • Developing capability in contract negotiation and risk identification.

Required Skills

  • Experience in infrastructure, energy, or renewable sectors.
  • Exposure to construction or project-related contracts.
  • Familiarity with the Australian legal environment.
  • Experience supporting transactions or project delivery teams.
