QC Advisor

ICON Engineering Pty Ltd

At ICON Engineering our employees and contractors get direct access to the oil and gas industry’s most innovative and business critical engineering projects and work with our clients who are major oil companies and oilfield contractors. We have a track record of successfully executing global projects in the USA, UK, Norway, South East Asia, New Zealand, Canada and Australia.

We have built a reputation for applying innovative thinking to our oil and gas clients’ most complex engineering problems from concept through to construction. The senior engineering talent we attract really enjoy the variety of projects they work on at ICON, a greater level of project ownership, the ability to play a significant role in driving and owning the commercial aspects of project management and developing client relationships.

THE OPPORTUNITY

ICON Engineering's project portfolio spans offshore brownfields modifications, subsea equipment fabrication, and construction across the WA shelf and beyond, and the quality of that work starts with the people inspecting it. This is a hands-on QC role for a certified welding inspector who knows their way around a fabrication yard and an ITP and takes genuine ownership of getting it right on the ground. If you have 10+ years in QC inspection and want consistent, substantive work with a company that treats quality as integral to project delivery, this is worth your attention.

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Quality Manager, you'll work closely with Project Engineers and Project Managers and be expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy on-site and at supplier facilities.

Working within ICON's project delivery team, the QC Advisor supports fabrication, construction, and installation phases across oil and gas projects, including offshore platform modifications, subsea equipment fabrication, and brownfields construction scopes across the WA shelf. Day-to-day, you'll be conducting weld and materials inspections, developing and executing ITPs, managing NCRs through to close-out, and ensuring work performed by fabricators and contractors’ meets applicable codes and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect welds and fabricated components for conformance with applicable standards (ASME, API, AWS) and project-specific requirements;
  • Develop, review, and execute Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) across project phases;
  • Identify non-conformances, raise NCRs, and drive corrective action through to close-out;
  • Review quality documentation including WPS/PQR records, material certifications, inspection reports, and quality plans for completeness and compliance;
  • Provide technical advice to project and construction teams on quality-related matters, welding procedures, and inspection requirements;
  • Visit supplier and fabricator facilities as required to witness inspections, verify quality systems, and confirm hold-point sign-offs are completed;
  • Inspect incoming materials prior to use in fabrication or installation, verifying MTCs and traceability documentation;
  • Maintain complete and accurate inspection records, test reports, and quality documentation throughout project execution;
  • Ensure all QC activities align with NOPSEMA requirements, client specifications, and ICON's management system.

Essential

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Minimum 10 years' QC inspection experience in oil and gas fabrication, construction, or offshore project environments;
  • Certified Welding Inspector — AWS CWI or CSWIP 3.1 (current and valid);
  • Working knowledge of ASME, API, and AWS welding codes and standards;
  • Proven experience developing and executing ITPs and managing NCR processes through to close-out;
  • Direct experience working on NOPSEMA-regulated projects and applying the associated regulatory requirements;
  • Ability to work independently on-site and at supplier facilities with minimal supervision;
  • Familiar with material traceability, MTCs, and supplier quality management.

Desirable

  • NDT qualifications (UT, MT, PT or RT) — Level II or witness/oversight experience;
  • Coating inspection qualification (NACE/AMPP CIP Level 1 or 2) or equivalent experience;
  • Background supporting brownfields modifications, offshore construction, or hook-up scopes;
  • Familiarity with document control and quality management systems in a project environment.

WHY ICON

ICON's project pipeline across WA and the broader region is strong and sustained, brownfields modifications, P&A campaigns, and offshore construction work is keeping our teams active well into 2027 and beyond. QC at ICON sits within integrated project delivery teams, meaning you'll work directly alongside the engineers responsible for the design and execution of the work, not in a separate quality silo. For experienced QC Advisors who perform well, repeat engagement across successive projects is the norm. This is a company where the quality function is genuinely valued, not treated as a checkbox exercise.
