ANZCA is seeking a Principal Engineer (Enterprise / Solution Architecture) to provide senior technical leadership across strategic and operational technology initiatives. Reporting to the Executive Director, CIO, this is a highly influential role that bridges strategy and delivery, acting as the organisation’s technical authority and trusted advisor.

About ANZCA

The Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) incorporating the Faculty of Pain Medicine, is an internationally recognised specialist medical education institution responsible for the training, examinations, specialist qualification, and continuing professional development of all anaesthetists and pain medicine specialists in Australia and New Zealand.

The college's purpose is to serve our communities by leading high quality patient care in anaesthesia, perioperative and pain medicine, optimizing health and reducing the burden of pain.

About the Role

As Principal Engineer, you will influence ITS architecture, technical solution design and engineering decisions across strategic programs, major system enhancements, and complex integrations. You will partner closely with the ITS leadership team, IT operations and delivery teams, vendors, and senior stakeholders across the business to ensure solutions are fit-for-purpose, scalable, secure, maintainable, and aligned with enterprise architecture and organisational strategy.

You will continuously evolve our approach to technology by reviewing and aligning evolving business needs with suitable technology solutions, tracking emerging trends, analysing their applicability and supporting their adoption if in-line with business goals and objectives through the Technology & Digital Strategy and Roadmap.

You will Mentor and Coach engineers at all levels on effective software development approaches and standards providing technical leadership in the delivery of key digital solutions inclusive of architecture, conceptual and detailed design, and implementation.

This role is strategic but hands‑on, focused on technical leadership, architecture, and quality.

The role is an individual contributor with no direct reports.

About You

You are an experienced technical leader who combines strategic thinking with pragmatic delivery. You bring credibility, influence, and a calm, measured approach to complex technical decisions.

Essential experience and capabilities

  • 10+ years in senior engineering, solution architecture, or technical leadership roles
  • Proven experience designing and delivering complex enterprise‑scale solutions
  • Strong background across application, integration, cloud, and platform architecture
  • Deep expertise in solution architecture and systems integration
  • Experience with API‑led, event‑driven, and integration architectures
  • Strong understanding of security, identity, data, and infrastructure considerations
  • Experience working with cloud platforms and modern engineering practices
  • Demonstrated experience in the Microsoft cloud ecosystem
  • Experience working in hybrid internal / vendor delivery environments
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills

Desirable

  • Experience modernising legacy environments
  • Familiarity with architecture frameworks (e.g. TOGAF, Zachman)
  • Experience in not‑for‑profit, healthcare, education, or membership organisations
  • Exposure to governance, compliance, or regulated environments
