Beyond Data

This is an Expression of Interest for an AI Engineer who wants to tackle complex challenge in the real world by building working software.

About Beyond Data. We're a small Brisbane team. We work with Australian operators (manufacturing, distribution, mining, logistics, the unglamorous parts of the economy) and we ship them AI and data software that runs on their real data and changes a real metric. We aren't a consultancy that writes lengthy slide decks and we aren't a software provider that builds one size fits all SaaS. We visit customer operations on-site, sit with their operators, watch how the work actually runs, then build for that. We're bootstrapped, growing, and we don't have everything figured out yet.

The work. You'd own a problem to solve, from the concept to the delivery. That means starting with a customer's actual problem (often something like "our warehouses are full of stock we conservatively bought as a buffer" or "our field technicians have to visit customer sites twice because they weren't equipped for that particular breakdown"). A platform engineer offers you infrastructure to build inside; your job is to design, build and deploy a solution that makes an impact. We build automations, analytics, ML, and Gen AI workflows, the stack is heavy Google Cloud Platform and heavy Claude/Gemini.

Who fits. You've shipped real things that have made a real difference. You care about the operations, not just the platform performance. You're often self-taught, comfortable on modern AI stacks, and can talk to non-technical operators. We run small, short feedback loops, learn fast, and we have evidence-backed opinions on how things should work. You don't need a PhD or any fancy degree really, you need to demonstrate you can make positive impact.

Logistics. Brisbane based (or SE QLD) but remote much of the time, customer site visits across QLD and sometimes wider Australia (sometimes regional, sometimes a Melbourne CBD office, depends on the customer). Part-timers welcome to reach out but you'll need availability during the day to visit customer sites.

If this sounds like it could fit you, email me directly ***email_hidden*** or DM me on LinkedIn. Please skip the ChatGPT cover letters, send me one of these instead:

  • Something you've built that you'd want to talk through.
  • Your Claude Code / Codex / Openclaw setup and how you've tweaked it.
  • How you would measure the impact of an AI scheduling agent for a heavy-vehicle fleet
